Overview & Basic Itinerary

Palm Trees on One Alii BeachFor the past couple years, I have been following Sandy Puc on many of her tours. In June, I attended her Workflow Tour with Jack Davis in Kansas City. During this tour stop, Jack invited us to attend his Creative Photography for the Soul workshop in Moloka'i Hawai'i. It sounded interesting so I asked for more information.

About a week after the tour stop, I received the information about the workshop. The workshop sounded great, plus getting to go to Hawai'i.... in November... for a week... led by a photoshop hall-of-famer and two National Geographic photographers... how could I turn it down? I quickly reserved my spot using my vacation reserve and started getting excited.

Even though this was a workshop, I could tell by the description it was very laid back and easy going. It wasn't going to do a ton for my portrait photography, though I figured I would get some ideas from it. But I figured it may help me branch out into some of my nature photography that I would love to do as well. Mostly, I was excited about getting to take a vacation, something I don't get to do too often. It may be a working vacation, but a vacation all the same.

Basic Itinerary

I'll be waking up at 5:00 Saturday morning to leave for Omaha to catch my flight to Denver then San Francisco and Honolulu and finally to Moloka'i. I'll touch down at my final location about 19 hours later or 7:00 pm Moloka'i, Hawai'i time. Unfortunately, I'm going to miss orientation and be late for dinner but luckily, I will be picked up at the airport and not have to find my way where I'm going in the dark.

Through the next week, I have several classes about lightroom, photoshop and other photo editing techniques. I will also have several photo shoots - 2 sunrise shoots, 3 sunset shoots, 1 all day shoot and 1 hula dancers shoot. From looking at the schedule, it should be a busy week, but still have plenty of time to work on many of the photos I'll be taking and even possibly relax a little.

The following Saturday, I didn't get a flight out of Moloka'i until 7:00 that evening. The workshop is over in the morning and I'll be leaving the Hui before lunch. I'm not sure what I'll do all day, probably sit at the airport. I'll be leaving Moloka'i at 7:00 and should be touching down back in Omaha 13 1/2 hours later around 12:30 and back home by 2:30... time enough to get some rest and ready for work again Monday morning!
